Yorkie Ranch specializes in quality Yorkies, Maltese, Shorkies, and other Designer breeds. We focus our breeding program on health and temperament, to produce the best possible companion for you. The terms miniature, tiny, teacup, tea cup, etc. are used to describe a pet that is usually under the breed standard for size, and although we do not breed specifically for this, we will have teacup yorkies, teacup maltese, and teacup shorkies, as well as other teacup designer breeds on occasion. |

Cooking at home for your dog can do a world of wonders for their overall health. We use home cooked meals in addition to a kibble diet and our puppies are much more vigorous and retain a healthy fat layer (good for puppies, bad for adults!) We have found that some of our puppies can be picky eaters and just don't seem to eat as well as their siblings, especially during the weaning process. The home cooked food seems to fix that problem! Those finicky eaters push their way in their and eat and eat and eat! This is what you want in a puppy. A healthy vigourous appetite! Following are some easy recipes that we use here for our babies. (This page is a work in progress. We will post new recipes as time allows.)

PLEASE REMEMBER, COOKED CHICKEN BONES CAN KILL A DOG! ALWAYS MAKE SURE ANY CHICKEN YOU GIVE YOUR PET HAS BEEN COMPLETELY DEBONED!

|
| Ingredients |
|
|
↵ Chicken - boneless breast preferable. Chicken livers can be used as well.
↵ Brown rice
↵ Vegetable Medley
↵ One tspn to tbspn of minced garlic
↵ You want a ratio of about 40% chicken, 40% rice and 20% veggies.
| |
| Preparation |
|
|
↵ Boil the rice until it is overdone, really mushy! Add your garlic towards the end.
↵ Prepare your chicken, either boiled or pan seared.
↵ Cook your vegetables, or just thaw them out and add them to the rice once it is cooked.
↵ Once your chicken is done, make sure you tear it up into very small pieces, as the puppies tend to gobble this down, and too big of pieces can cause them to choke!
↵ Add all your goodies together and 'Voila'!

You should be feeding this in addition to a quality kibble. I recommend feeding it once a day, preferably in the morning so it stimulates their appetite for the rest of the day. As they say, breakfast is the most important meal of the day! This is true for our pups as well. How much you feed them is going to depend on the size and activity level of your puppy. A teacup puppy should probably get less than a 1/4 of a cup. A 2-4 pound puppy should get between 1/4 to a 1/2 cup. You will have to experiment and see what works best for your puppy. You cannot overfeed a puppy, as they are still growing and need all the nutrients they will take, however, because they generally like the cooked food so well, you do have to moderate their intake or they will eat so much that they may get a tummy ache or even throw up from over-indulgence! Think of it like giving candy to a small child - they will eat and eat until they make themselves sick!
